Obituary for Austin J. Godfrey

Austin J.  Godfrey
Mr. Austin J. Godfrey, age 76, of Cartersville, passed away Saturday, November 18, 2017 at his residence. He was born to the late Henry P. Godfrey and Ethel Mathews Templeton on January 18, 1941 in Gordon County.
Mr. Godfrey was a member of Millers Chapel Church. He was a loving and caring man who loved his family more than life itself. He was a veteran, having served his country in the United States Army and later went to work for Bartow County Roads and Revenue Department, where he stayed until retirement. Mr. Godfrey also enjoyed coon hunting, trading cars and mowing his grass. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Ann Godfrey.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jo Ann Bohannon Godfrey; two daughters, Mary Jo Godfrey Lewis of Cartersville and Libby (Perry) Brockman of Leesburg, Alabama; his grandchildren, Kristy (Josh) Holley, Cody (Lacey) Tatum, Daniel Tatum, Kayla (Josh) Lockridge, David Tatum and Corey (Haley) Lewis; 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie (Lillie) Godfrey and Harvey (Janet) Templeton; three sisters, Mary Ruth Turner, Barbara Godfrey and Imogene Long; special nephew, Spanky Godfrey; special nieces, Tammy Martin Harris, Sonia (Tootie) Bradley, Paula Martin and Carla Martin and cousin James (Flute) Mathews; along with several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Revered Josh James officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Vernon Singleton, Robert Bohannon, Dewayne Godfrey, Shane Godfrey, Dustin Ferguson and Jo Jo Mathews. Jessie Bohannon, Josh Templeton, Chris Nichols and Dorian Templeton will serve as honorary pallbearers.
