Obituary for Annie Ruth Carnes (Baker)

Annie Ruth Carnes, 90, of Cartersville passed away Thursday, January 30, 2020 at her residence.

Born on August 28, 1929 in Rockmart, Georgia the daughter of the late RL Baker and the late Stella Parrish Baker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas L. Carnes, Sr.; and her sister, Sara Griffin.

Annie was raised in Floyd County, Georgia. Growing up she was known to be a real “Beauty”, as well as a basketball star, at Johnson High School in Rome. After graduation, she married the love of her life Tommy in 1958 and they moved their family to Marietta, Georgia, where she worked in production at Lockheed. After retirement, she and her Husband moved to Cartersville and enjoyed sharing their bountiful vegetable garden with family, friends and neighbors. Since the passing of her husband in 2009, she has resided with her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Jr. and Landis at their home. Annie was a wonderful and beautiful lady who loved her family with all her might – she will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Tommy Carnes, Jr. and Landis; her grandsons and their wives, Thomas L. Carnes III and Amanda, and Andrew Carnes and Summer; her great-grandson, Thomas L. Carnes IV; and her brother, Frank Baker.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2020 with Mr. Parnick Jennings officiating. Burial will follow in Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the funeral home.
