Obituary for Bernice E. Gentry

Bernice Elaine Gentry, 75, of Cartersville passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Floyd Medical Center. Born in Bartow County Georgia on April 19, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Massey and the late Agnes Massey. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Karen Patterson and her sister Ruth Hite.

Bernice was a woman that would give you the shirt off her back. She showed nothing but unconditional love to everyone and would do anything for those that she loved. No matter if it was the first time meeting her, she always told everyone to call her, “Mawmaw.” She loved being outdoors. She enjoyed fishing with Michael, Brandon, Eli, Hunter and Jesse, gardening with Justin, and being at the campsite with Chris. Bernice also enjoyed cooking holiday dinners with Lynne. You could also find her inside watching her stories or 90 day fiancé. Her smile would light up any room she would walk into. She was a wonderful mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She was loved by so many and her spirit will continue to live on within everyone.

Survivors include her daughters Lynne Whitener and Amanda (Tom) Lavery; sons Michael (Glenda) Patterson and Chris (Christie) Patterson; her husband Bruce Gentry; grandchildren Justin (Brooke) Whitener, Jessica (Chris) Dutto, Brandon Patterson, Derek Patterson, Caden Patterson, Hunter Whitener, Jesse Patterson, Casey (Hannah) Patterson, Carly Patterson, Carson Patterson, Alexus (Sidney) Lindley, Wynston Lavery, and Spencer Lavery; great grandchildren Elijah, Layla, Keeley, and Bella; siblings Buddy (Pat) Massey, Edith (James) Bailey, Joan (Sam) Fortenberry, and Tim (Cathy) Massey.
