Obituary for Bobbie H Smith

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, Bobbie Jean Smith, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at the age of 89. She left this earth peacefully and surrounded by her family. Bobbie lived out her final years in Acworth, GA with her daughter Stephanie and her family, and was an active member of Kellogg Creek Church of Christ.

Bobbie Jean was born February 19, 1933 in Gibson County TN to Robert Walter and Mandy Alma (Cotham) Holder. She attended Peabody High School in Trenton, TN graduating in 1951, and then attended Draughon’s Business School in Memphis, TN. On December 30, 1967, she married John Franklin Smith. They had two daughters, Stephanie and Julie. She was a long time member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ, of which her father was a founding member.
Throughout her life Bobbie was curious, resourceful, hard-working, and never knew a stranger. She loved people and endeared herself to everyone. She never backed down from a challenge and was known for her creative problem solving – her family nicknamed her Mama MacGyver. Bobbie was active and involved. She enjoyed helping others, gardening, yard sales and flea markets, watching sports (especially tennis), and crafts. She was famous for her Christmas stockings that she gave to family and friends. Bobbie’s greatest earthly joy was her family and she loved spending time with her daughters and grandchildren.

Bobbie is preceded in death by her father, Robert Holder, and her mother, Mandy Alma (Cotham) Holder, and her beloved husband of 50 years, Franklin Smith. She is survived by daughters Stephanie Harr (spouse Kevin) and their daughters Savannah, Sierra, and nephews Drew and Dillon of Acworth GA, and Julie Fuller (spouse Chris), and daughter Emma of Nashville, TN.

Celebration of a life well lived will be held at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home in Cartersville, GA on Friday, November 11 with visitation beginning at 2:00 pm and funeral service at 4:00 pm. Graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Gibson County, TN at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 13.

The family wishes to extend sincere, heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Amedisys Hospice of Cartersville for helping make Bobbie’s final transition peaceful and comfortable and caring for her and the family as if it were their own.
