Obituary for Gene W. Hampson
GENE WILBUR HAMPSON
Mr. Gene Hampson 88, of Cartersville, died Friday, January 1st at the Hospice Care Facility in Cartersville. Born in Mattoon, Illinois on March 11, 1932, he graduated from Mattoon High School and served in the Navy for 2 years during the Korean War. At age 30 he went to college and received his Bachelor degree from Eastern Illinois University. Gene was a retired Draftsman from Blaw Knox Construction Equipment Company and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved reading, riding his motorcycle, fishing, camping, shooting clay pigeons, gardening, tinkering, and fixing things. Back in his hometown he was treasurer of the VFW, member of the Christian Motorcycle Club, volunteered at the hospital front desk, sang in the Church choir and also the Community choir.
He was the son of the late Clifford Hampson and the late Beryl Hampson. In addition to his parents his sister Mary Anne Greanias and brother Jack Hampson preceded him in death. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Zula Hampson of Cartersville, GA; his daughter, Mitzi Underwood and husband John Underwood of Marietta, GA; daughter Marsha Grubbs and husband Peter Grubbs of Harrison, OH; and son Martin Hampson of Charlotte, NC. His grandchildren: Luke Grubbs (Danielle) of West Bend, WI; Nathan Grubbs (Stephanie) of Moreland Hills, OH; Monty Grubbs of Cincinnati, OH; Joshua Grubbs of Fairborn, OH; Jonathan Grubbs of Harrison, OH; Noah Underwood and Rachel Underwood of Marietta, GA; and Great-grandchildren: Soren, Shane and Brody Grubbs of West Bend, WI.

Funeral services will be conducted at Noon on Monday, January 11, 2021 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend Mark Bagnell officiating. Gene will be buried at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 2-4p.m. on Sunday, January 10th at the funeral home. Serving as pallbearers will be Martin Hampson, John Underwood, Noah Underwood and Peter Grubbs.
