Granger Sidney Howell, 61, of Kingston, Georgia, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 15, 2023. Born on December 16, 1961, he was the son of the late John Dee Howell and Louise Rogers Howell.
Granger was a “master mechanic” with an innate ability for building and repairing engines and a special talent for welding and fabrication; always extremely meticulous with his work. He was passionate about his race car and dirt track racing. It was in preparing for races and at the racetrack where he spent many of the most joyful and exuberant days of his life alongside the track, car, team, fans, friends, and family.
He also enjoyed exercising, lifting weights and doing fitness training. This was a good thing as it offset his love of his family's “good ole country cooking” and grilling out! Despite having made some irrevocable, life altering decisions, he has always had an enormously large and loving heart. Granger's spirit and compassion were to provide for the less fortunate and lend assistance to those in need. He did many anonymous “acts of kindness” long before it was the popular thing to do. As a part of his daily life, he faithfully read his Bible (worn and tattered and bound together with the “tried and true” fix-all, duct tape). He shared those scriptures along with daily devotionals with others. Now at peace and with joy he has victoriously crossed his final Finish Line, #81 free at home forevermore in Heaven's Victory Lane.
Granger is survived by his daughter, Sydney Howell, a student at Lincoln Memorial University, College of Veterinary Medicine where she will be earning a doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May 2023. Also surviving are Sydney's fiancee' Jillian Witt, his mother Louise Howell, sister Shawna (“Jane Dee”) Howell McDonald and husband Jeff , special friend Laura Segars, many aunts, uncles, cousins, and a very special buddy, Otis, his beloved cat.
A Memorial Service in Granger's honor and memory will be conducted at Kingston United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 18, 2023 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Lurlene Sims officiating. Visitation will be from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm at the church prior to the Celebration of Life Service. Interment will immediately follow in Kingston City Cemetery.
The family of Granger Howell would like to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to all for the many generous expressions of sympathy, condolences, and contributions which have made this possible and to Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
