Obituary for Hugh Boss Jr.

Hugh Alfred Boss Jr., 88, of Cartersville, Georgia passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 8, 2023, while surrounded by his family.

Mr. Boss was born November 30, 1934, to the late Hugh Boss Sr. and Mary Mathis Boss.

Mr. Boss is preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, June Ponder Boss; parents; grandson, Gavin Brion Moore; and son in law, Kerry Moore.

Mr. Boss is survived by his children; Angela Boss Moore, Teresa Boss Wade, Malcolm Boss ,and Carla Boss: grandchildren; Nicholas (Shea) Wade, Natalie (Chris) Taylor, Tyler (Katie) Boss, Jody Boss, Janna (Austin) Reynolds: great-grandchildren; Ethan Bourdon, Jackson Taylor, Tatum Taylor, River Wade, Avery Wade, Willow Wade, Reed Boss, Logan Boss, Liv Boss, Jace Reynolds, Addie Jo Reynolds, and Jameson Reynolds: and brother Joel Boss.

As a small business owner, Mr. Boss owned and operated Prime Foods Inc. of Cartersville for 45 years. He was a hard worker and worked until the age of 87. Some of his business ventures included being a loyal employee at Pepperell Mill, owner and operator of Advanced Pest Control 1962-1965, route manager of Dempsey Brothers Dairy 1968-1970, plant manager at Marietta Provision 1971-1973, and plant manager at Turner Brothers Food 1973-1977. These jobs lead Mr. Boss to a life-long career of owning and operating Prime Foods Inc. from 1977 until current day. Mr. Boss was an active member of Atco Baptist Church. There he served and ministered for 60 years as Sunday school teacher and deacon. Mr. Boss also loved to farm. He grew a bountiful garden each year and raised cattle on his family farm. One of his greatest joys was taking the grandchildren to Boss Farm. Mr. Boss had many titles over the years, but his favorite was “Paw-Paw.” He was a true hero in the eyes of his children and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of faith and hard work will be instilled in generations to come. Psalms 112:5-6 says, “Good will come to a man who lends generously and conducts his business fairly. He will never be shaken. The righteous man will be remembered forever.”

A funeral service will be held at Atco Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend James T. Hatcher and Reverend Justin Holcomb officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home. Pallbearers will include Mr. Boss’s grandsons: Nicholas Wade, Tyler Boss, Jody Boss, Chris Taylor, and Austin Reynolds. Honorary pallbearers will include Mr. Boss’s great-grandsons; Ethan Bourdon, Jackson Taylor, River Wade, Reed Boss, Logan Boss, Jace Reynolds, and Jameson Reynolds.
