Obituary for Jane J. Sullivan

Jane Jennings Sullivan of Woodstock, Georgia, age 63, sadly passed away on May 31, 2022 at Emory St. Joseph Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

On January 3, 1959, J C and Mae Jennings welcomed their first born of four children, a beautiful daughter, Jane Clarice. Jane was a precocious child with a love of reading, poetry, dancing, and drama. She was a Girl Scout from Brownies through First Class Senior and served as a troop leader, always striving to both achieve the highest level possible for herself, and to support others as they sought to achieve the highest level of every endeavor.

Jane loved dancing and won awards in ballet, tap, gymnastics and baton. She was a majorette at Avondale High School in Decatur, GA, and was on the flag and rifle corp at Cass High School after the family moved to Cartersville. She played the clarinet and flute in the Cass High School band and was on the debate team. She aspired of becoming a lawyer and litigating cases in front of the Supreme Court, or a paralegal who could help indigent people with legal concerns. Or, if truth be told, she often dreamed of writing novels based on romance and fantasy, her favorite genres.

However, those dreams were put on hold because, while attending Cass High School, she met the love of her life, Austin Autrell Sullivan (Trell). The two were married June 11, 1977, days after Jane’s graduation and she went with her new Air Force husband to his assignment in the Philippines. While stationed at Clark Air Force Base, the Sullivans started their family as they welcomed their first born, Matthew Autrell Sullivan on March 16, 1978. Being someone who was not able to just stay still, Jane had a little studio where she taught teenagers how to twirl the baton, and she worked with local Filipinos wishing to strengthen their English language speech skills by teaching poetry and short story writing. Some of her poetry was published just prior to the birth of their daughter, Leonida Elizabeth (Beth) Sullivan Hurst. Upon their return to the USA, Beth was born at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA on September 15, 1979. The family then lived in North Carolina, Fort Bragg/Pope Air Force Base, where Jane was a doting mother, wife, and friend. She was consumed by her family and proud of helping them to grow and thrive.

Jane and the family returned to Georgia when Trell left the military. Matthew and Beth graduated high school. At that time, Jane worked at Crawford Long Hospital as an office administrator and received her paralegal certification. However, she did not find her true love to be “the law” and she attended and graduated from Shorter College with her bachelor’s degree (2000) and Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA 2005). Jane held many office administrator and office manager positions prior to securing her final, and favorite, dream job with Rob Harshman Forensic Science and Engineering, LLC in July 2013.

On May 31, 2022, this beautiful soul joined her brother, Tony Jennings, in Heaven. She leaves behind her loving husband of 44 years, Trell Sullivan; her son, Matthew Sullivan, and his sons Dylan Autrell Sullivan (Ashley), Travis Autrell Sullivan (his friend Ryleigh Knight); her daughter Beth Hurst (Bobby Hennessee), and her children, Seth Hennessee, Alexis Jane Hurst, Hailey Ann Hurst, and Elizabeth Kate Hurst; her parents, J C and Mae Jennings; her sisters, Janine J Joseph and Jill J Frasier (Phil) and numerous friends and extended family members. Jane was a loving soul who found a way to brighten people’s lives however they needed. She liked cruises, traveling, art festivals, reading, taking her granddaughters shopping and to get their nails done, and hanging out with her family and friends. To know Jane was to be a lucky soul who felt her love. Her life was well lived and ours are better for having known and loved her.

A funeral service will be held for Jane at 10:00 am on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in the Jennings Funeral Home Chapel with Michael Tutterow officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 6, 2022 at the funeral home for visitation.
