Obituary for John Lewis Smith

John Lewis Smith, 81, died September 19th, 2023, at his home in Kingston, GA. He was born April 18th, 1942, in Bartow County to the late William O. Smith and Ora Lucille Brown Smith.

John was a husband, father, grandfather, great grand-father, uncle, and best friend. He grew up with the love of his life but didn’t realize it until he was 19. Together he and his wife raised three girls, five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. John’s eyes would always light up when he was spending time with his family, rather it was a summertime cook-out, a fishing trip with the grandkids or just sitting on the front porch, playing his guitar, and singing while the kids all danced. John loved to tell jokes and always had a new one ready when he visited his brothers. He was employed by Nelson Appliance for many years while also working the farmland. Riding a tractor was his favorite thing to do, next to spending time with his family. He was a member of Second Baptist Church and loved to sing the song “I Saw the Light.”

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers Abe and Albert Smith; son-in-law Timothy Williams; grandsons Hank Williams Blackmon and Jimmy Johnathan Blackmon; and granddaughter Amanda Williams.

Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Brenda Carol Smith; his daughters Carolyn Ann Pool (Brian), Mary Ann Williams, and Kathy Lynn Smith; grandchildren Shaun Ray Blackmon (April), Tonya Nicole Blackmon (Tyson) Steven Lewis Williams (Jessica); great-grandchildren Lonnie Williams, Robbie Akins, Jacob Akins, Hailey Akins, Austin Blackmon, and Mason Blackmon; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members.

A funeral service for John will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 22, 2023, in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Chester Brown and Rev. Adrian Craig officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Kingston, Georgia. John’s family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 21, 2023, the evening before the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Steven Williams, Lonnie Williams, Shaun Blackmon, Robbie Akins, Eric Brown, Franklin Akins and Albert Zielke.

Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services is honored to serve the family of John Lewis Smith.
