Obituary for Leonard Walter Cassidy

Leonard Walter Cassidy, 66, of Cartersville Georgia, passed away on February 24, 2022.

Born on October 1, 1955, he was the son of Sonny Cassidy and Shirley Cassidy.

Leonard was the type of person that neve met a stranger; he was a friend to anyone that crossed his path. However, if you crossed that path the wrong way, you better get out of his way! He did not wear his heart on his sleeve but if you needed a shirt, he would give you his own.

Leonard left his childhood home in Illinois at the age of 13 and went to live with the Apache Indian Tribe in North Dakota, which his father was a member of. The Chief took him under his wing for 6 months. After learning and living the ways of the free and sacred land, he proceeded to find his place in life as a young man. He made his way over to the Woodstock Festival in 1969. He did not have a ticket, so he climbed the fence and snuck in. He loved the live Rock N Roll music!
Leonard eventually settled in Jacksonville, Florida where he became an entrepreneur by owning several different businesses. He was a Master Mechanic, Certified Microsoft Software Engineer, and a professional Long-Haul Driver. In fact, he hauled the materials that built the steel plant! That opportunity led him to move to Cartersville Georgia where he began his career at Gerdau.

Nothing could stop Leonard once he set his mind to it. He had strong determination and tremendous willpower. He went back to school at the age of 62 and graduated with an Associate Degree in Science and was working on obtaining his bachelor’s degree. He loved to travel in his spare time, and he and his wife have been to Las Vegas at least 10 Times! He has also traveled to Hawaii, Panama, and Brazil.

Leonard’s dream was to retire and live on the beach in Hawaii. He collected coffee cups and has a collection of over 300 mugs! He maintained the #3 spot on the game, World of Warcraft and in 2019, he ran a 5k marathon and came in 2nd place in his category!

He leaves behind his loving wife, Debbie; five children, seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
