Obituary for Mark Anthony Elrod

Mr. Mark Anthony Elrod, 70 of Winder died on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Regional Medical Center. Born in Cartersville on January 9, 1949 he was the son of the late Howard Colquitt Elrod and the late Minnie Bohannon Elrod. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marilyn Bryant; and his brother, Eton Matthew Elrod.

Mr. Elrod served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church, and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Elrod was affectionately known as “Pawpaw Pockets” by his grandchildren. He loved his family dearly.

Survivors include his daughters, Cissy Elrod of Winder, and Amanda Haney of Rockmart; his son, Jason Elrod of Cartersville; his sisters, Martha Harp of Winder, Annette Freeman of Pell City, AL; his brother, Howard Elrod of Cartersville; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Joe Nix officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service. Interment will follow in Center Baptist Church Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brady Dover, Zach Davis, Samuel Harp, Michael Stephens, Corey Scoggins, and Ryan Freeman.
