Obituary for McArthur "Mac" Dickson

McArthur “Mac” Dickson, 75, of Cartersville died on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 at his residence.

Born in Cartersville on August 3, 1943 he was the son of the late Arthur Dickson and the late Alma Jenkins Dickson. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bessie Underwood; and his brother Harrison Dickson; and his granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Caldwell.

Mac was employed as a long-distance truck driver until his retirement having driven over two million miles during his career. Known as a very generous and giving person he was a member of the Cartersville Elks Lodge #1969 and many people knew him by his nickname “The Peach Man”. Mac loved going to the flea market and gardening in his free time and he especially loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Joyce Sanford Dickson of Cartersville; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Michelle Dickson Whitney and Harry Reid Whitney, Jr. of Taylorsville; his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Candis Dickson of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Todd and Amy Caldwell of Great Falls, Montana, and Tyler Caldwell of Cartersville; his great-grandchildren, Levi Caldwell and Kylie Caldwell both of Cartersville; his sisters, Bonnie Murphy and Rosa Lee both of Cartersville; his sister-in-law, Nancy Castleberry; and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville with Reverend Kevin Lobello officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
