My mom was a very beautiful Southern Belle (Georgia Peach)
who was not only a charming story teller and enjoyed reading but was one of the most compassionate people I have ever known, with a listening ear.

I feel so honored that she was in my life for 77 years, Yes! she was a teenage bride. At the age of 15 she gave birth to me in the midst of the 2nd World War. Yes, she only had an 8th grade education.

My mom never let lack of education level be an obstacle.

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Georgia and from our conversations I know she was not just a member in name only but was active.

She became a Dental Hygienist and worked in a high rise on Peachtree in Atlanta. She had many careers in her life and worked until she was 82 years old. She was probably one of the 1st Tupperware distributors in Georgia and then she sold stainless steel cookware door to door. Then she became a housewife most of her years with John “Dubb” Ferrell.
They were married on July 26th 1967 and he went to Heaven Sept 25th 1985 (after 18 years of marriage. Nita remained a widow.

She moved to Phoenix, Arizona for a year in 1988-89 moved back to her home in Georgia. October 31, 2000 Nita once again moved to Arizona and this time she would stay for 5 years. We spent a lot of free time together, I am so glad for those years.

In both of those moves she worked as a home healthcare provider. One year she wanted to try something different, she worked at Walmart as a greeter on Elliott Road in Tempe, Arizona during the Holiday Season. She enjoyed the experience and would come home with some funny stories. She made some amazing friends while in Arizona.

My mom never met a stranger and I know that is one her gifts to me.

She taught me so much, to never give up on a dream, never ever say Can’t,

Never to Hate only Love. To be a person of integrity and to have compassion for others.

She knew the art of entertaining from BBQ’s to wonderful holiday meals. She made the best potato salad and fried okra, biscuits & sausage gravy perfect crisp bacon and corn bread and a yummy roast to spaghetti and best ever chili, peach cobbler & so much more.

She loved Holidays with family and in the later years with friends.

Her family was close knit, and we spent a lot of Sundays with my grandparents and her sisters and brothers at my grandparents’ home in Cassville, Georgia.

With everyone cooking our holidays were off the chart, sitting around the dinner table with everyone’s favorite food and lots of cross talking over each other.

In the last few years, it was her amazing neighbors in White, Georgia (who were there when I should have been) and her nephews and nieces that brought joy to her life, oops did I mention Nellie, Tater & Biscuit!

My mom’s passions in life:

Her fur babies and other pets were family, especially in her later years when she was no longer driving and spent time alone.

She was an avid reader of books, sometimes 2 books a day, to newspapers, all of her life, magazines and cookbooks! Which gave most people she knew that she must have at least a Master’s degree.

She was full of wisdom and knowledge.

Loved her Florida Vacations and friends in St Augustine and Daytona

Did I mention loved Golf Tournaments and NASCAR and Braves Baseball?

Loved craft shows and yard sailing adventures.

Her sisters that lived in Georgia enjoyed these also with her.

Loved growing fresh veggies and cooking & freezing and canning.

Loved flowers and blooming cactus and beautiful Magnolia Blooms on the trees.

My favorite time with my mom was breakfast at my home or her home and going out for brunch or breakfast. Just the two of us.

In Arizona she loved the Botanical gardens and the Phoenix Zoo and she loved road trips.

Loved to go and decorate the graves of her family members for their special dates and holidays.

Thinking back at all the wonderful memories, one of my friends mentioned, isn’t it amazing that God gave us the ability to store our memories in our mind not just in digital environment we create?

I could write a book (and I may) For now

Her favorite song, that I did not know until her Chaplin Norma called me, and said did you know your mom loves for me to sing “Whispering Hope”?

My scripture for my mom would be Proverbs 31.

Memories from a daughter who already misses picking up the phone to talk and wishing that I had listened more to those famous stories that her friends enjoyed.
