Obituary for Randall Douglas Peters

Randall Douglas Peters passed away at home on Tuesday, November 17, at the age of 78.

Randall is predeceased by his father, Lester B Peters, and his mother, Anita Goode Peters. He is lovingly remembered by the mother of his children, Rosalee Little, his daughters, Heather Candela, Leslie Siniard, and Emily Hine, and his son Benjamin Peters, along with his granddaughters, Caitlin Hester, Bethany Alcorn, Lauren Cloud, Savannah Hine, and his grandsons, Max Rohland , Jackson Hine, and Parker and Tate Candela, as well as three great grandsons and a great granddaughter.

Randall was born in Big Stone Gap, Virginia in 1942. He graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Tennessee and went on to earn a PhD in Physics from the University of Tennessee. He was a professor and scientist in numerous acclaimed institutions, including Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and Mercer University.

In his retirement, Randall enjoyed raising mules, working in his woodshop, hiking, and continuing his lifelong seismography research, for which the Astronomical Society of South Australia recently christened an observatory in his honor: The Peters Seismic Observatory.

There will be a graveside service held for immediate family at Providence Cemetery in Cartersville on November 27, with Reverend Jacob King officiating.
