Obituary for Richard Anthony Murdock

Richard Anthony “Tony” Murdock of Adairsville, Georgia passed away Friday, April 1, 2022 at the age of 55. Born February 13th, 1967 to Richard and Diane. He graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1985 and built a career as an HVAC specialist working for the last several years for energy Systems Southeast, LLC. His favorite past times were spending time with his family, building cars, listening to music and being outdoors.

Tony was first and foremost a family man, always caring for those around him. In his early years he helped take care of his two younger brothers, Rodney and Dana. When he turned 22, he welcomed the first of his three daughters, Kelly and soon after, Olivia and Sharon followed. In April of 2006, his family grew even further when he married Crystal Brawner and became a step-father to Britni and Dakota. Tony was a tough disciplinarian, but he spread his knowledge to all his children the best way he knew how, teaching them lessons in work ethics, respect and how to eventually be strong, independent adults.

With a passion for fast cars, he built and modified many vehicles throughout his life. A Chevy Chevelle in his teenage years as well as multiple Ford Broncos in his adulthood were among them. Classic Rock groups – Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, The Eagles, Creedence Clearwater Revival and Pink Floyd, for Instance – were often blasting over his speakers as he worked under the hood. During Breaks, he would wipe the oil and grime from his hands and loved to challenge onlookers to a game of darts, which he typically won.

If not in the garage working on cars, you would likely find Tony outside. He loved to fish, go four-wheeling and camping with his brothers and every fall he eagerly awaited the first day of deer season. Tony often stated that in a perfect world he would live in a cabin in the woods somewhere, enjoying a cold beer while cooking food over an open fire and living off the grid.

Tony is preceded in death by grandparents Loraine and Jack Murdock and Nannie and James Hyatt, step-father Ronnie Pratt and step-mother Charlotte Murdock, as well as niece, Ally Murdock. He is survived by parents Richard Murdock and Diane Pratt, his wife Crystal, brothers Rodney (spouse, Alethea) and Dana (spouse, Michelle), daughters Kelly Causey (spouse, Hunter), Olivia Heater (spouse, Jordan) and Sharon Murdock (spouse, Julian), step children Britni Williams (spouse, Justin) and Dakota Holden, nieces Renee and Brittany Murdock (spouse, Dylan), nephews William and Andrew Murdock, as well as ten grandchildren.

A service will be held in remembrance of Tony’s life at the Riverside Park Day Use Area, 513 Allatoona Dam Rd, Cartersville, Georgia on Saturday, April 9th. A eulogy will be held from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM but guests are welcome to come earlier or stay later to picnic and fish.
