Obituary for Rita Kay Cox (Ferguson)

Rita Cox, 69, of Euharlee, passed away Saturday, March 27th, 2021.

Mrs. Cox was born on October 16th, 1951, the daughter of J.D. Ferguson and Annie Lou Ferguson (Bramlett). She was retired from Bank Ozk. Before returning to banking at Bank of America, Rita worked as a paraprofessional at Cartersville Elementary School.

She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Cox, parents J.D. and Annie Lou Ferguson, and her beloved sisters Sheila Barnette, Lynn Garrison and Shirley Ferguson.

She is survived by her son Jonathan Cox, his wife Jill, and grandchildren Kaley and Brady Cox; her daughter Metta Whitton, her husband Greg, and grandchildren Connor and Landon Whitton. Her brothers Tommy Ferguson (Mable) and Mack Ferguson; along with several special friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

To know Rita is to love Rita. She never met a stranger. She loved big and made sure that her family knew it. Rita loved spending time with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Her favorite title was Granna/Nonna. She was her grandchildren’s biggest supporter. Every meal, vacation and just time together will always be cherished.

Our hearts are broken that her time with us has ended, but we are grateful she is reunited with the love of her life Johnny and her dear sisters. Rita always told us she loved us more… Mom/Granna/Nonna, we love you more.
In lieu of flowers, Jonathan and Metta, ask that you donate to Good Neighbor Homeless Shelter or the Cartersville Backpack Buddies program.

A private memorial service will be held at Georgia National Cemetery on April 13th at 9:30.

Jonathan and Metta will receive friends and family after the service on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Rita’s home, located at 1383 Euharlee Road, Euharlee, Georgia 30145.
