Sharon Herndon Rader (affectionately known as “Dear” to many), age 80, passed away peacefully on February 17th, 2020 while surrounded by her family.

Born on May 19, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Herndon. She spent her childhood on a farm in White Stone, Virginia (small town in the historic Northern Neck region). It was here that she developed her passion for the water, nature, and animals. She was a loving wife and mother who raised her family in the suburbs of Atlanta, Georgia. To enjoy their early retirement years, she and her husband returned to her childhood home in Virginia, then settled back to Georgia to be closer to their children. She will always be known for her energetic personality, passion for animals (inside and outside their homes), and her love for her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Robert R. (Bob) Rader, Jr. They were married at Historic Christ Church in Weems, Virginia on June 11th, 1960. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Debbie Giddens (Randy) and their son Stephen; her son, Robert Rader (Candise); her brother, David Herndon (Dee); her niece, Laura Griffith (Mark); her nephew, Hale Herndon (Amy); her four grandchildren, Rye Rader, Lauren Smith, Dylan Rader, Mackenzie Rader and her four great grandchildren, Maddie, Abby, Cela and Sutton.

The funeral will be a small private family service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to, an Atlanta-based nonprofit organization that operates the largest cage free, no-kill shelter in the Southeast.

I am so sad to hear of the passing of our long time family friend. The Raders were friends & neighbors. Mrs. Rader's children grew up with my brother & I. My parents, Gerry & Bob Laber along with Sharon & Bob Rader attended many of parties & other functions together. There are so many wonderful memories! Mrs. Rader will be missed. She was so full of life & always so much fun to be around. My brother, Bill & I send our deepest condolences to the Rader family. May you find peace during this really difficult time.

I met Sharon when we both moved into the same retirement community. She was always ready for a walk, a cup of coffee, a swim in the pool and a good laugh. Miss her
