Obituary for Shirley Claudette Lowery

Shirley Duncan Lowery, age 87, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Lowery was born on May 13, 1936, in Bartow County, Georgia to the late Melvin “Pete” and Lula Crowe Duncan. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband Boyd Lowery, and her siblings Betty Duncan, Eunice Keith, Mary Barbier, Nita Cantrell, Pattie Griggs, Rhoney, Melvin Jr., Charles Duncan, and Randy Duncan.

Mrs. Lowery is survived by her three children Elizabeth Womack (Dennis), Billy Lowery, and Kenny Lowery (Tina); her six grandchildren and their spouses, Marc Womack (Brianne), Joseph Womack (Nell), Brett Womack (Tess), Jacob Womack (Ashton), Lauren Malone (Ryan), and Lindsey Ellis (Tyler); her great grandchildren Zeke, Spurgeon, Haddon, Piper, Rob, Ann Fisher, Camille, Adahlyn, Aisley Ann, Cora, Catherine Akers, Jep, Whitley Womack, and new baby Womack coming in November; Aubree, Cooper, Effie Mae, Nora, Lula, and Morgan Ellis; her two brothers, JL Duncan (Patsy), and Keith Duncan (Donna); her sisters-in-law Lenore Lowery, Joyce Hayward, and Carolyn Duncan; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lowery was an active member of Atco Baptist Church where she was very involved teaching Sunday school, leading senior adult Keenagers, women’s ministry, Meals on Wheels, Vacation Bible School, and went on many mission trips with the youth in her earlier years. She loved her Church. She was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers, and former member of the Jessie Green WMU group at Cartersville First Baptist Church. She loved to do crafts, embroidery, crochet, cross stitch, read, and loved to entertain in her home. She retired from Bell South in 1993 after thirty-three years of service. After retirement, she worked at Cartersville Primary School, and Chick-Fil-A in Cartersville.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Atco Baptist Church with Reverend Justin Holcolmb officiating.  A burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville, Georgia.  The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Atco Baptist Church prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Marc, Joseph, Brett, and Jacob Womack, Ryan Malone, and Tyler Ellis.
