Obituary for Thomas Shaffrey

Thomas William Shaffrey born September 5, 1944 passed away at our home in Cartersville, Georgia June 1, 2020. He took his last breaths with his family holding him close as he looked up to the heavens. He was proceeded in death by his parents Dorothy and Edwin, his Aunt Margaret, Uncle Bill and his grandparents. Dad was an extremely intelligent, strong man. He was a teacher of English and Religion and later Tai Chi. He also was a poet and artist. He served in the Air force during the Vietnam war and worked with the secret intelligence department. He was a financial advisor later in life. He was always teaching and advising others. Dad had a love for the outdoors, walking, golf, guns and tai chai. Dad loved his dogs more than anything including ours. We will never forget his heroism for going into his burning home to save his dog Abby and Abby getting in water to save my dad. It was amazing and a blessing to bring him back to Georgia and have family with him. He fought and was a fighter. He always told me especially when we had final talks to always be strong no matter what. He asked forgiveness and told us all he loved us. He told me he constantly prayed for others to be free from their suffering and I’m grateful he is now free from his suffering. Dad is survived by his daughters Kelly Shaffrey Mallory, Shannon Ann Shaffrey and wife Esterina Shaffrey. Freedom from sin, sanctification, eternal life — all are gifts freely given by our God through His son Jesus Christ. "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away."
If the eye never sleeps, all dreams will naturally cease, if the mind makes no discriminations, the ten thousand things are as they are, of single essence. To understand the mystery of this One-essence is to be released from all entanglement.
