Obituary for Walter Earl Crowe

Walter Earl Crowe, 89, passed away at his home on Friday, April 16, 2021.

Walter was born in Cartersville on October 19, 1931 to the late Johnson and Audrey Crowe.

Walter attended both Cass High School and Cartersville High School playing two years of football for each school. He graduated in 1948 from Cartersville High School and began studies at Norman Park College and Piedmont College. Walter joined the Navy in 1951 and was stationed in San Diego, California. In 1952, he married Annie Laura Jones. When Walter left the service in 1954 as petty Officer Second Class, they returned to Cartersville.

In 1955, Walter began his career with the U.S. Postal Service. During the next few years, he also attended classes at Georgia State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He also attended Woodrow Wilson College of Law and completed the Advanced Management Program at the University of Virginia. His work with the Postal service included labor management issues and national labor negotiations. In 1982, he was selected as the new Sectional Manager of Charlotte, N.C. Upon retirement he was Regional Manager of Employee and Human Relations in Chicago. He retired in 1988.

Walter’s remaining years focused on his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his church. He was a member of Gilmer Street Baptist Church, which his parents were founding members. Later, Gilmer Street Church became Grace Baptist and Walter became very involved in the building of this church. He was a finance officer, choir member, taught Sunday School, and was an honorary lifetime deacon.

Mr. Walter E. Crowe is preceded in death by his parents and three of his children; Rhonda Ann Crowe, Joel David Crowe, and Terry Nelda Crowe Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Annie Laura and two children; Michael E. Crowe (Vicki) and Cynthia Crowe Wellman (Les), 11 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; and a sister, Ms. Bobbie Cantrell of Melbourne, Florida.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, April 19, 2021 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Reverend Keith Willard officiating. He will be laid to rest at Sunset Memory Gardens in Cartersville, Georgia. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm prior to the service.

Serving as Pallbearers will be Chris Wellman, Hans Lewis, Joe Crowe, Bradley Crowe, Erik Lewis and Evan Lewis.
