Obituary for Waymon Grogan

Waymon Lamar Grogan, age 61, passed away suddenly on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center.

Waymon was born on May 7, 1961 in Rome, Georgia to the late Sam Grogan and Irene Whitener Grogan. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Margaret Thurman, John Grogan, and Billy Grogan.

He is survived by his two loving daughters Randi Mullins (Tommy) and Rachel Calvin; his life long friend and former spouse Gwen Owens; his grandchildren; Patrick Smith, Nicholas Calvin, and Blake Smith; his aunt Omie Whitener; his estranged sister Sandra Garvin (Rick); a special niece Sammie Tanner; as well as several other nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Waymon was a family man and loved his grandchildren with his whole heart. His face would light up whenever he got to mention them. Waymon was the kind of man who would do anything for anybody and he was a hard worker. Even though his family will miss him and are deeply saddened by their loss, they take comfort in knowing he passed doing what he loved. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

Waymon’s Celebration of Life Cook-Out will be held Sunday, October 30, 2022 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm at Red Top Mountain State Park, Red Top Beach Rd., Cartersville Picnic Shelter #7. Dress comfortably! Directions can be found on Google Maps by searching for "Red Top Picnicn Shelter #7." Parking is $5 per vehicle. Bring your stories, share your memories, and celebrate with our family! Our pops always loved a good get-together; we'll have hot dogs, tater chips, and cold drinks. Feel free to bring a side dish or dessert if you'd like.

Alcohol is not permitted inside the park.
