Mrs. Adell Sheppard Liles, 81, of Cartersville, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at her residence. Born in Pine Mountain (Chipley Community), Georgia, June 8, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Oscar Sheppard and the late Mattie Mae Cummings Sheppard.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Alfred Victor Herec, Jr; her syblings, Jesse Wesley, John Melton "Pete", Oscar Herman Sheppard, Mattie Grace and June Patricia Sheppard. Mrs. Liles was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, The Cartersville Garden Club, The Seekers at Trinity UMC Sunday School, The Lunch Bunch, and was a hostess for many years at Tucker United Methodist Church. She was also an avid gardener. Mrs. Liles was a graduate of Piedmont School of Nursing and was employed by Emory University Hospital, specializing in Oncology, before retirement.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Maria Liles Morton and husband, Allyn of Boone, NC, Josie Hickom and her husband, Doug of Cartersville and Carol Rebecca Jolly of Decatur; her granddaughters, Shari Hickom, Cindi and Doug Gravley, Georganna Morton, Rebecca Hickom, Kayla Morton and Jessica Jolly; her grandson, Jarrod Jolly; her great-grandchildren, Landon and Kendall Gravely; her syblings, James Olin Sheppard, Susie Mae Sheppard Reynolds, Margaret Alice Sheppard, Mary Harriet Percilla Sheppard, Francis Connelia Sheppard Turner, Janice Juanita Sheppard Brown and Mimmie Elaine Sheppard Hoffman; and her very special friend, Florence Delaney.
A memorial service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 17, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Mike Morgan officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 – 8 p.m. at the church. The Seeker Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers. Flowers will be accepted, but for those who wish, donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice in memory of Mrs. Liles.
