Mr. Alfred Waymond Caldwell, age 84, of 56 Marion Dairy Road, SE, Lindale, GA, died Saturday, October 23, 2004 in the Fort Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville, TN.Mr. Caldwell was born in Chattooga County, Georgia, June 12, 1920, son of the late William Mitchell and Elizabeth Ingle Caldwell but had spent most of his life in Rome and Floyd County. He attended the Lindale Church of God and was a member of the auditorium Sunday School Class, but was a member of the North Rome Church of God where he had served as superintendent of Sunday School, a member of the Church Council, choir director, and taught the youth group. He was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Army. Prior to his retirement he had been associated with the Rome News Tribune as a typesetter for over 42 years. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter Anna Woodward in 1999.Survivors include; his wife, the former Gladys Virginia Howell to whom he was married January 3, 1942, a son and daughter in law, Jerry and Mary Gene Caldwell of Jesup, GA, two daughters and sons in law, Barbara and Larry Weathington of Conyers, GA, Cherilyn and Robert Rumely of Athens, GA, a brother and sister in law Roy N. and Victoria Caldwell of Plant City, FL, six grand children, 7 great grand children.Funeral services for Mr. Alfred Waymond Caldwell will be held at 2pm Wednesday, October 27, 2004 in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. John Moates and J. Parnick Jennings, Sr., officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.Mr. Caldwell will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Tuesday from 6-8PM and at other hours will be at the residence.Active pallbearers include; Harold Treglown, Rev. Roy Thomas, Bob Young, Frank Sims, Tim Hooker and Rev. Bert Brooks.
