Mr. Alford Ray "Chief" Marshall, 92, of Cartersville, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Cartersville Heights Health & Rehab.
He was born in Worth County, Georgia on December 4, 1923, the son of the late Clyde Manson Marshall and Hattie Belle Jenkins Marshall and was the brother to ten siblings. Mr. Marshall lived in Sylvester and Worth County, Georgia for approximately 43 years before moving to Cartersville in 1967. In Sylvester he was a farmer and then owner/operator of Marshall's Service Station. After moving to Cartersville, he continued to work as owner/operator of a service station on Tennessee Street, the Georgia and Bartow DOT, Bartow Paving and later retired as a used car salesman. He loved listening to music, dancing and making people smile. He was of the Baptist
faith. Mr. Marshall became well known around Cartersville in his later years due to his daily walks. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters; his children, Glen Dewayne Marshall, Bobby Randall Marshall and Bonnie Odell Marshall; and granddaughter, Rebecca Lynne Miller Greenway.
Survivors include his ex-wife, Carolyn Bartlett Marshall; his daughters, Arlene V. (Vickie) Mulkey and husband, Carl of Cartersville and Kay Lynne Craig and husband, Eric of Coco Beach, Florida; his son, Alton Raymond Marshall of Cartersville; his brother, Bernard Marshall of Leary, Georgia; his sister, Judia Growe of Lexington, Virginia; along with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family will hold a private service at a later date.
