Allen Jerald Owens, age 73, of Cartersville, Georgia, sadly passed away Friday, June 23, 2023, at a Rome Hospital following a short illness.
Allen was born in Cartersville, Georgia, on October 30, 1949. He was the son of the late Ellis Jerald and Ellen Simpson Owens. He is also preceded in death by his Grandparents, Otis and Rheta Simpson, Grandmother Maggie Keaton and Grandfather Thomas Byrd Owens, and nephew, David Oliver.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Mary Couch Owens, two sisters: Karen Nichols (James) and Charlene Oliver and several nieces and nephews, great and great-grand nieces and nephews.
Allen graduated Cass High School prior to serving in the United States Navy 1968-1971, aboard the aircraft carrier, the USS Independence. After his return to civilian life, he became a member of the Navy Reserves, received his Associate Degree in Business from Rhinehart College, and his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Brenau University.
He worked at Atlanta Gas Light Company and their sister company Georgia Natural Gas for 26 years.
Beginning as a meter reader, he quickly became a dispatch supervisor and later a customer service supervisor.
Allen loved to fish, travel, tend the flowers in his yard, read his Bible (hiding the Word of God in his heart), sing and go to church.
While Allen had no brothers, he became a brother to everyone who knew him well.
He was a true friend to many; always only a phone call away.
He was a wonderful husband and loved his "Mary" more than anyone except his Lord and Savior.
While he and Mary had no children, they became "adopted" grandparents of many.
Allen was a very devout Christian man, an ordained Minister, and one of the founders and a current member of the board of the New Beginnings Church – Cartersville. Allen loved to sing and he was a member of the church choir. He never met a stranger. He loved talking to people and always put a smile on everyone's face with his unique sense of humor.
Allen will be missed by many.
