Ms. Alma McWhorter Tanner, age 86, of 906 North Fifth Avenue, Rome, GA, died Saturday, January 28, 2006, at her residence.Ms. Tanner was born in Chattooga County on March 9, 1919, the daughter of the late John McWhorter and Inez Goddard McWhorter. She was a member of East Rome Baptist Church. Ms. Tanner was employed with Greystone, Forrest Hotel and Gaslight as a waitress until she had to retire. She loved her family and enjoyed oil painting, cooking, and sitting on her front porch. In addition to her parents, Ms. Tanner is preceded in death by a son, James Tanner, two sisters, Frances Crowe and Janie Ruth McGraw; a brother, J.C. McWhorter, a daughter-in-law, Linda Tanner and a granddaughter, Joy Michelle Tanner.Ms. Tanner is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dallas Tanner of Rome, GA and Johnny and Peggy Tanner of Rome, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanette and Bobby McLemore of Rome, Ga and Brenda and Don Pelfrey of San Antonio, TX; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn Tanner of Rome, GA; a brother, Emmett McWhorter of Summerville, GA; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Ernest Wilson of Rome, GA and Pearline and Bobby Stamey of Rome, GA; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held Monday, January 30, 2006, at 1:00 P.M. at East Rome Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Martin and Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.The family will receive friends on Monday at East Rome Baptist Church at 11:30 A.M. until the funeral hour and at other hours will be at Jeanette and Bobby McLemore's house, 608 Elliott Drive, Rome, GA.The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the East Rome Baptist Church on Monday by 12:30 P.M.: Grandsons, Wade Tanner, Corey Tanner, Dallas Tanner, Troy Tanner, James Tanner II, Dewayne Tanner, R.L.
