Mrs. Alma Mathis Tarvin, age 96, of Rome, GA died Sunday, May 2, 2010 in a local healthcare facility.
Mrs. Tarvin was born in Bartow County, GA. on October 13, 1913, to the late Claude C. Mathis and Bessie Worthington Mathis. Mrs. Tarvin had worked for the Celanese Corp. from 1948 until 1967 and prior to her retirement had worked for twelve years with Rome Manufacturing Co. She was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church and was a member of the Ladies and Men�s Sunday School Class. In addition to her parents Mrs. Tarvin was preceded in death by her husband, Lindsey L.Tarvin, October 15, 1945; brothers, Cecil Mathis of Rome, Roy Mathis of Rome, Hugh Mathis of Lansing, MI. and Seward Mathis of Rome and a sister, Mary Ruth Redman of Rome.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in law Roger L. and Sharron Tarvin of Rome, GA; daughter and son-in-law Glenda and Walter McDaniel of Marietta, GA; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Smith of Rome, GA and Mable Cannon of Chattanooga, TN and loving friend Gina Thomas of Rome, GA also survives.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 12:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral with Rev. Frank Terpening and Rev. Herschel Dowdy officiating. Interment will follow in the East View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 at the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home. On Tuesday the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour.
