Mr. Alton Horton (Mutt) Jones, age 86, of 125 Rollingwood Circle, Rome, GA, formerly of Plainville died Thursday, December 23, 2004, at his residence.Mr. Jones was born in Floyd County on December 17, 1918, son of the late Macon Lee Jones and Brilla Horton Jones. He retired from Celanese Fibers Company in 1974 after 25 years a lab technician. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of Disabled American Veterans, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Jones was a member of the 214TH Battery Company H in New Guinea and they continue to have annual reunions. He was a member of Plainville Unity Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and sang in the choir. He moved from Plainville to Rome in 1996.Mr. Jones was preceded in death by six brothers, Willie, Ormand, Doyle, Harold, and Herman Jones; three sisters, Estelle Scott, Aline McEntyre, and Mae Braden.Survivors include his wife, Glenda Jones, to whom he was married on July 28, 1945, in Adairsville United Methodist Church parsonage; daughter (Alta) Laura Jones of Rome; sisters-in-law, Ruth Jones, Betty Jones, Elizabeth Jones, and Eunice Wright. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Jones will be held Friday, December 24, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Holsomback Rev. Bobby Stephens officiating. Music provided by Rev. Randy Lambert. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Les Blanton officiating.Mr. Jones will remain at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. until funeral hour. At other hours they will be at their residence. Nephews will serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home by 2:30 P.M. Friday and include Dr. Nevin Jones, Bobby Jones, Robert (Bunky) Jones, Tommy Jones, Barna Jones, Frank Wright, Robert Climer, and Dale Bell.Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Heyman Hospice, P.O.
