Mrs. Alvie E. Shook Jackson, 72, of Cartersville passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Maple Ridge Assisted Living. Born in Cartersville on July 8, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Emanuel Monroe Shook and the late Lily Adeline Ledford Shook. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Daniel Eugene Carlan; her niece, Mariessa Ann Gibbs Williams; her brothers, James Charlie Shook and Johnny Monroe Shook; her sisters, Edna Earl Shook, Margie Elanor Jones, Delia May Ray, Nelie Ann Gibbs, Thelma Mordesia Layman, and Barbara Jean Branton.
Mrs. Jackson enjoyed playing Bingo, and she loved her family more than anything. She was always in attendance at every family reunion, baby shower, and bridal shower. Mrs. Jackson had retired as the communications manager for Cartersville Medical Center. She was also a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Sandra Carlan of Euharlee; her grandson, James David Carlan of Gainesville, Florida; her brother and sister-in-law, Rev. Ralph and Ruby Shook of Cartersville; her sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Charles Garland of Blue Ridge; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2009 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. David Baker and Rev. Ralph Shook officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ralph Daniel Davenport, Phillip Shook, Bill Gibbs, Russell Shook, Randy Garland, and Danny Ray. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Friday.
The family will receive friends from 7 � 9 p.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
