Mr. Alvin "Bud" Barrett, 87, passed away Monday, December 1, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Rome surrounded by his family. Born in Floyd County on July 25, 1927, he was the son of the late Carter F. Barrett and Mary Babe Ramsey Barrett.
Mr. Barrett was a member of Narroway Baptist Church and enjoyed reading his Bible, telling stories, making crafts and gardening. He was a hard worker and always made people feel at home. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, JoAnn Ferguson Barrett; sisters, Jewel Ruff and Lucille Burnett; brothers, Richard and Edward Barrett; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Nicole Arnold and Paul Wesley Gunn.
He is survived by his daughters, Gail Young, Darlene Gunn (Larry), and Shelia Pruitt (Don) all of Cartersville, Janice Shortridge (Ray) of White, Sonia Moore (Phillip) of Kingston and Tonya Arnold (Richard) of Rockmart; his sons, Bobby Barrett of Buchanan and Buddy Barrett of Cartersville; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Narroway Baptist Church with The Reverend Jimmy Tibbitts officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Mr. Barrett will be taken to the church on Thursday to lie-in-state for one hour prior to the service.
Serving as pallbearers will be Derrick Barrett, Stephen Blackmon, Jim Pruitt, Michael Gunn, Dustin Barrett, Jesse Perkins, Evan Arnold and Brett Arnold.
