Mr. Alvin Earon �Josh� Scoggins, Sr. age 98, of Rome, GA died Saturday, August 7, 2010 in a local hospital.
Mr. Scoggins was born in Pennville, GA on March 22, 1912, the son of the late Charles Wilson Scoggins and Louetta Housch Scoggins. He was the owner and president of Rome Fruit and Produce Company. In addition to his parents Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Patricia Williams Scoggins on March 4, 2007 and a son, Alvin Earon �Josh� Scoggins, Jr. on October 16, 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Anne Sentell of Rome, GA; a daughter-in-law, Kay Scoggins of Douglasville, GA; three grandchildren, Matthew Sentell and his wife, Daniela of Seattle, WA, Bobby Lewis of Franklin, TN, and Melissa Wilkinson of Douglasville, GA; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua Sentell of Seattle, WA, Brianna Sentell of Seattle, WA, Tyler Wilkinson of Douglasville, GA, and Savannah Wilkinson of Douglasville, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Richard Dixon officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The family will receive guests immediately following the interment service at their residence, 12 Saddle Mountain Rd, Rome, GA.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel on Wednesday by 1:30 P.M.: Noel Gomez, Bubba Holbrook, Bobby Lewis, Daniel Pritchard, Warren Pritchard, H.A. Stogner, Johnny Stogner, and Rance Stogner. The Honorary pallbearers will be James Broome, Joe Johnston, and Randolph Oswalt.
