Mr. Arlen M. Baker, age 74, of Silver Creek, GA also known as �The Produce Man/Breadman died Wednesday, May 20, 2009 at his residence.
Mr. Baker was born in Gordon County, GA on November 19, 1934, the son of the late George and Josephine Baker. Mr. Baker was retired from the Flowers Baking Company. He was a member of the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Baker loved farming and had his own produce stand, where he was respected by all his customers. Mr. Baker was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving during 1954 thru 1956 as Spec. Third Class with the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a niece, Monya Broome and a grandson Brian Bowling.
Survivors include his children, Debra Baker Westbrook and husband Chester of Gaylesville, Al, Melody Baker Robinson and husband Lane of Rome, Dewayne Baker of Edmond, OK and Carolyn Roberts Smith and husband Billy of Silver Creek, Ga; Mikel and Sandi Baker of Silver Creek, Ga; grandchildren, Chase, Jeremy, and Zarah Baker, Cody Brock, Clint and Kyle Green, Jericho Baker, Bailey King, Scotty Smith, Felicia Redden, and Amanda Floyd; great-grandchildren, Brianna Floyd and Sydney King; ex-wife and best friend Elizabeth Baker Wortman; brothers and sisters, Elsie and (C.E.) Broome of Rome; Diane and (Jack ) McCord of Rome, Sandra Bowman of Atlanta, Alfred and (Peggy) Baker of Rome, Clive and (Janny ) Baker of Rome, Myron and (Rosanell ) Baker of Rome and Mather Baker and (Jeanette) of Rome and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings and Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Jones, Rev. Buddy Floyd and Rev. Alfred Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard conducting military rites.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are asked to meet Saturday at 1:30 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel: Kenneth Floyd, Sam Perri, Wayne Childers, Charlie Childers, Brian Lee and Louis Loveless.
