Arnold “Arnie” Gene Ison, 74, peacefully passed into the presence of his Heavenly Father on Saturday June 20, 2026. Born on December 12, 1951, at the family farm in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, Arnie was the youngest child of Roy and Lulia Collins Ison’s eleven children and a devoted follower of Christ.
A graduate of Green High School, Arnie entered the workforce as a Corrections Officer at Southern Ohio Correctional Facility and ultimately retired from SOCF as a Lieutenant after decades of service. Fair, hard-working, committed and a natural leader, he was well respected by fellow officers and prisoners alike. While he worked in other industries such as Marion Steel and as a car salesman throughout his career, Arnie excelled most as Lieutenant Ison.
Arnie was most proud to be a father to his three girls, Andrea (Darryl) Gatlin, Ashley (Mark) Major, and Erin (Josh) Giles, teaching his girls how to fish, showing them around a toolbox, helping with their 4-H projects, talking about Buckeye football, sharing his love of music, and supporting their many interests. As he became a grandfather, he loved making memories with his five grandchildren, Brenna (Grant), Brayden, Kaylin, Luke, and Hailey.
Serving several church bodies wherever he lived, Arnie lent his musical talent by playing trombone, often served on the church’s security team, and lent his voice by singing solos, sharing his love for Jesus.
Arnie was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Orville, Lloyd, and Harold as well as his sisters, Christina Stelli, Juanita Burchett, Joyce Thomas, Joan Williams, Evelyn Bickett, and Marcella Jackson. He is survived by his brother David, his beloved niece Vancella, and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who will remember him for his humor, his dad jokes, and his onery grin.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cornerstone Nazarene in Wheelersburg, Ohio on July 9 with visitation starting at 11:00 where we will gather to honor his memory and rejoice in the promise of everlasting life.
