Mrs. Ava Lee Ayers Avery (Mrs. Howard Wyatt Avery) , age 91, of Rome, Georgia passed away on Sunday, December 19, 2004 at a local medical center.Mrs. Avery was born in Floyd County, Georgia on December 13, 1913, the daughter of the late Alvin Sylvester Ayers and Mamie Estelle Weeks Ayers. She had lived her entire 91 years in Rome and Floyd County. Before her marriage, she worked at Tubize, which later became Celanese. Mrs. Avery was a nurses' aid at Floyd County Hospital from 1963 until 1975, where she took great pleasure in tending to the babies in the newborn nursery. For most of her life, Mrs. Avery was a homemaker. Mrs. Avery was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years on January 29, 2004, by her daughters; Doris Billings in May 2002 and Rebecca Ann Avery in July 1937; by two brothers, David Ayers and Sherman Ayers and a sister, Opal Ayers Harvey.She is survived by five children, Elna Ruth Payne of Rome, Mary Amanda Jane Donahue (John) of Macon, Wyatt Truett Avery (Brenda) of Ft. White, FL, William (Bill) Henry Avery (Libby) of Orlando, FL and Sharon Lorraine Parker of Rome. Sharon was the loving, primary caregiver for her mother for the past seven years and for her father prior to his death. Mrs. Avery is survived also by a son-in-law, Thomas L. Billings, Sr; a sister, Dorothy (Mrs. R.C.) Comer and a brother, Lydell (Betty) Ayers. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren also survive.Visitation for Mrs. Avery will be held at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home on Tuesday, December 21st from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.Funeral services will be held at Garden Lakes Baptist Church, where she was a member, on Wednesday, December 22nd at 1:00 pm. The funeral will be officiated jointly by the Rev. Drew Corbett and Dr. Floyd Roebuck. Interment will follow at Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery, Coosa, GA.
