Beatrice Jones

Mrs. Beatrice Jones, age 90, passed away on March 22, 2008, in Rome, Georgia. She was born in Gordon County, Georgia, on August 2, 1917, the first of six children of Henry Guy and Pennie Pauline (Johnson) Autry.

She graduated from Plainville High School and Berry College. She taught in Alamo, Georgia at Young Harris College, Andrew College, and in the Gordon County School System. As a Methodist Minister's wife, she served with her late husband, the Reverend Joseph W. Jones, churches in the Florida Conference: Opa-Locka, Homestead, Key West, and Manhattan Avenue in Tampa. Mrs. Jones helped found the Plainville Public Library and taught arts and crafts in her business, "The Hitching Post", there in her hometown. In recent years, Mrs. Jones transferred her membership to the North Rome United Methodist Church after having served as an active and faithful member of the Plainville United Methodist Church for many years.

Mrs. Jones is survived by her four children, Mrs. Samuel L. (Pennie) Martin, Clermont, Florida, the Reverend J. Wesley (June) Jones, Macon, Georgia, Mrs. George (Denise) Smith III, Rome, Georgia, and Dow (Lisa) Jones, Rome, Georgia; four grandchildren, Joey Jones, Oxford, Mississippi, Jonathan Jones, Cullman, Alabama, Jeremy Jones, Atlanta, Georgia, and Sarah Frances Jones, Rome, Georgia; sister, Mrs. Sue Stanton, Dallas, Georgia; brother, Paul Autry of Rome, Georgia; sister-in-law, Mrs. Libby Clark, Ocala, Florida; brother-in-law, Reverend T. Jack McCollough, Woodbine, Georgia; as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors at the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home in Rome on Sunday, March 23, 2008 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the North Rome United Methodist Church with Reverend Norv Havens and Reverend Don Anderson officiating.

Interment services will follow on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 5:00 P.M. at the Hickory Flat United Methodist Church Cemetery in Banks County, Georgia.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made in memory of Mrs. Jones to the North Rome United Methodist Church or the Plainville United Methodist Church.
