Mr. Bethel H. Davis, age 82, of 1168 Chulio Road, Rome, GA, died Sunday, September 3, 2006, in a local hospital.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Bethel (as he was lovingly referred to) was born on July 22, 1924, to the late Oran Grady Davis and Lorena Abernathy Davis. He was graduated from Indiana Technical College in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and where he also played baseball, followed by a Master of Engineering Degree from Carnegie Technical College. Mr. Bethel served as Sergeant in 358th Airdrome Squadron in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church; however, Bethel was a longtime member of Enon Baptist Church where he spent countless hours playing the piano and organ. He also compiled information and wrote the One-Hundred Fifty Year History of Enon Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bethel was preceded in death by his half sister, Blanche Taylor.Graveside and interment services will be held this (Tuesday) afternoon at 4 P.M. in the Rome Memorial Cemetery with Dr. Bill Landers officiating.Mr. Bethel will lie in-state in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home today (Tuesday) from 2:30 until 3:30.The gentlemen that will serve as active pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home by 3:00 P.M. and include; Dr. Bill Landers, Jonathan Landers, Jeremy Landers, Ken Dudley, Gary Vaughn, and John Wayne Blankenship.Flowers will be accepted and memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 855 Abutment Road Suite 6, Dalton, GA, 30721.Please join Mr. Bethel Davis' friends in honoring his life by visiting www.jenningsfuneralhome.com to post tributes and share memories.
