Mrs. Betty Jo Mathison Chastain, age 96, of Sugar Valley Road, Cartersville, passed away on Monday, April 20, at Manor Lake Memory Care.
Miss Betty, as she was called by many of her friends and family, was born in Cartersville, Georgia on February 23, 1930, daughter of late Lee and Dulcie Mathison. She was preceded in death by her sister Willie Mathison King, brothers Charles, Ernest, and Earl Mathison, son-in-law Robert “Bob” Whitfield, and great granddaughter, Dasey Maddox.
Miss Betty was a graduate of Cass High School and retired after working at Thompson and Weiman. Miss Betty was a devoted member of Atco Baptist Church throughout her life. Miss Betty loved to cook, garden, play cards, trips to Daytona and Pigeon Forge. Miss Betty was a fashionista at heart and loved to shop, especially for shoes and jewelry. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and spoiling her grandbabies. Miss Betty spent an almost 74 years with the love of her life and best friend, Charles Chastain, to whom she was married to on May 1, 1947.
Other survivors include her daughter Linda Whitfield, Rome; granddaughter, Lindsey Maddox, Georgia; two grandsons, Robert Whitfield (Kerri), Rome, and Jason Whitfield (Christina), Florida; two great-granddaughters, Molley Maddox and Lillie Chapman; five great grandsons, Judson, Bobby, Dawson, Dylan, and Dakota; nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at 2 pm in the Chapel at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Chaplain Michael Westmoreland officiating and music by Jason and Judson Whitfield. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home on Tuesday from noon until 1:30.
