Mrs. Betty Ann Lewis, 73, of 12 Crestwood Rd., Cartersville joined her husband in heaven on Saturday, December 22, 2007. Born on March 17, 1934 in Dallas, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late Eli Lewis and the late Nannie Hite Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fred Walter Lewis; her son, Michael Lewis; and her sister, Bessie Roberson.
Mrs. Lewis wrote inspirational songs and would sing with her husband at area churches. When especially inspired, she would write poetry. Her poems have been published by the International Poet's Society, and she had received awards for her poetry from the International Poet's Society.
A past president of Women's Aglow Ministries, Mrs. Lewis was also a member of Center Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, Women's Bible teacher and member of the Center Baptist Church prayer chain. Mrs. Lewis had retired from the Belk Department Store and had been a district manager for Avon. She is best known for her kind and gentle spirit.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and James Whitener and Judy and Jerry Chitwood, all of Cartersville; her sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Arthur Griffith of Rome; and her grandchildren, Justin Chitwood, Jonathan Chitwood, Jason Chitwood, Mikey Lewis, and Mandy Lewis Cantrell and her husband, Heath.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 24, 2007 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Sammy Adams and Rev. Dewey Atchley officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cartersville. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Howell, Charles Twiggs, Tommy Lewis, Jeff Niceley, Brian Golden, Marvin Griffith, and Waymon Kirkland. Pallbearers are requested to be at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Monday.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Sunday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
