Betty Ponder

Mrs. Betty Jean "Jeannie" Ponder, 72, of Cartersville, died Thursday, February 21, 2013 at her residence.

Born December 24, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Chirl Abernathy and the late Francis McEver Rodgers. Mrs. Ponder was a member of Friendship Baptist Church where she was involved with Vacation Bible School. She was a homemaker who loved her church and loved her family and friends. Mrs. Ponder was always laughing and upbeat and enjoyed spending time with her bingo friends and doing needlework and sewing. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Donald Roy Ponder.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Dexter and her fiancé Addison Mercer; grandson, Nicholas Lee; step-sister, Carolyn Carder; step-brother, Wendell Abernathy; and several other extended family members.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church with The Reverend Allen Crosby officiating. Mrs. Ponder will lie in state at the church for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 22, 2013 from 6 until 8:00 p.m. at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.
