Mr. Billy Lee Hicks, age 69, of Rome, GA, died Thursday, June 18, 2009.
Mr. Hicks was born in Atlanta, GA on August 15, 1939, the son of the late William Taft Hicks and Elsie Lee Hight Hicks. He retired from Northwest Georgia Housing Authority. Also, prior to retirement he was employed with Mohawk for fifteen years, Trend Mills for thirteen years, and Harper-Wyman for ten years. Mr. Hicks was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and was a good and faithful servant of Jesus Christ. He loved his family and enjoyed riding his bike, traveling, and fishing with his son. In addition to his parents Mr. Hicks was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles Hicks, Marvin Hicks, Donald Hicks, and Earl Hicks; and a sister, Faye Lipsey.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Sue Maples Hicks �Susie� of Rome to whom he was married on October 2, 1981; two sons, Steve O. Hicks of Rome and John R. Lee and his wife, Rachel L. Lee of Armuchee, GA; two daughters and sons-in-law, Tarinna Harrell Waddell and Roger Waddell of Armuchee, GA and Rebecca Lee Lock and Ian Lock of England; seven grandchildren, Jonathan D. Hicks of Rome, Kelsey Lee Harrell of Armuchee, Devon Lock of England, Tyler Lock of England, Cooper Lock of England, Christian Lee of Armuchee, and Kaylee Stewart of Armuchee; a brother and sister-in-law, Wallace Hicks Sutton and Claire Sutton of Cedartown, GA; and three sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Charles Austin of Phoenix, AZ, Diane Baxter of Rome, and Patricia and Dominique Pennacchio of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Also, a large extended family that loved him very much.
Graveside and interment services will be held Sunday, June 21, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Dr. Steve Andrews officiating. The Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion Honor Guard will be in charge of military graveside rites.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Oaknoll Chapel Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the cemetery by 1:40 P.M.: Roy Bailey, John Camp, Marion Harrell, Jonathan Hicks, John R. Lee, and Keith Earwood. Mr. Ralph Henderson will serve as a honorary pallbearer.
