Mr. Billy Walton Land age 78, of Rome, GA, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Land was born in Cartersville, GA on November 13, 1931, the son of the late Walton Theodore Land and Claira Mae Lanham Land. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. After serving in the Korean War Mr. Land was employed as a manager of A&P Grocery in Rome and later was employed in the furniture business by Maxwell, Impact, and Adams Furniture. Mr. Land was a member of Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church where he loved going and attending Sunday school. Also, he loved watching his grandchildren play ball and enjoyed listening to gospel music.
Survivors include his wife of twenty years, Mary Ann Nance Land of Rome; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Amy Land of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Lori Helen and Steve Wright of Sun Valley, ID; step children, Jayne Diggs, Betty Rabun, Wyatt Nance, and Marsha Gaskin; grandchildren, Connor Land, Andrew Land, Joshua Land, William Land, Nicholas Wright, and Colby Wright; and a sister and a brother-in-law, Helen and Ralph Oglesby of Cartersville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, January 29, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Hampton and Rev. Horace Stewart officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Friday in the Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church from 1:00 P.M. until the funeral hour.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 P.M.: Cliff Fuqua, Don Rice, Dennis Corbin, Wayne Casey, Arvin Holsomback, and Alvin Hardin. The honorary pallbearers will be The Eagles� Sunday School Class from Pleasant Valley North Baptist Church.
