Billy Lewis

Mr. Billy Bufford Lewis, age 71, of 248 Park Road, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, October 31, 2007, in a local hospital.

Mr. Lewis was born in Murray County, GA on November 12, 1935, the son of the late David M. Lewis and Lizzie Barnett Lewis. He retired in February 1998 from Floyd County as an equipment operator after twenty-three years of service. Mr. Lewis was of the Baptist faith. Also, Mr. Lewis enjoyed fishing and talking on CB Radios. In addition to his parents Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by a wife, Sybil Maxine Bridges Lewis on August 14, 1986; a son, Michael Billy Lewis; three sisters, Irene Aker, Bertha Mae Thompson, and Reba Blue; and two brothers, J.D. Lewis and C.W. Lewis.

Mr. Lewis is survived by a son Jerry Wayne Lewis of Cedartown, GA; a daughter, Tracy Brady of Gainesville, GA; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Horace and Doris Lewis of Aragon, GA and Hugh and Agnes Lewis of Rome; and two sisters, Frances Akins of Rome and Cathelene Boultman of Rome. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 3, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Allen and Rev. Frank Towe officiating. Interment will follow in East View Cemetery.

Mr. Lewis will remain in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Friday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M.

The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home on Saturday by 1:30 P.M.: Jerry Lewis, Tommy Lewis, Dan Thompson, James Farmer, Gerald Bryson, Jeff Hubbard, and Jamie Reed.
