Mr. Billy Miller, 71, of Kingston went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus on Thursday, August 14, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 23, 1936 in Bartow County, he was the son of the late Arlie Miller and the late Lizzie Jacobs Miller. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Frank Miller Sr. and Herbert Miller; his sister, Betty Brigman; and his son-in-law, Larry Wilson.
Billy felt like his ministry was helping the elderly and discussing the Bible. His hobby was going to yard sales, sharing his testimony, and inviting people to church. Billy was constantly buying wheelchairs, walkers, or crutches so he could give them away to those in need. He also loved his family and his church and loved praising the Lord. One of Billy�s favorite charities was the American Cancer Society�s Relay for Life. He was a member of the Canton Road Church of God where he served as vice-chairman of the Board of Deacons and on the Board of Trustees.
At the age of seventeen, Billy was the Senior Ginner at the Taylorsville Cotton Gin. He also worked as a pulpwooder and farmer before finally going to work at Shaw Industries where he retired as a supervisor after 28 years of service. Billy coached many Little League teams and men�s and women�s softball teams, and he played softball until he was 62 years old. His 40 and older softball team finished second in the state. Billy was also a Bartow County Region checkers player and wrist wrestler. During his wrist wrestling career, he won 22 1st and 2nd place trophies. Billy also loved horses.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years Mary Elizabeth �Libby� Miller of Kingston; his children, Peggy Wilson of Cartersville, Terry and Kim Miller of Taylorsville, and Debbie and John Hawkins of White; his grandchildren, Cicily Hardin, Cassie Pichon, Bryce Miller, Bronwyn Miller, Easton Hawkins, Alyssa Hawkins-Martin, and Spencer Miller; his great-grandchildren, Kendyl Hardin, Hayden Miller, Kole Hardin, Will Pichon, and Logan Pichon; his sisters, Grace Burke of Tyrone and Mary Alice Gentry of White; his brothers, Jessie Miller of Kingston and Robert Miller of Cartersville; several nieces and nephews; and his special friend, Mae Jaworski.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 2008 at the Canton Road Church of God with Rev. Dewayne McCreary and Rev. Dale Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be Jerre Loveday, Tony Collum, Larry Lambert, Dennis Priest, Tommy Strickland, and Larry �Loopie� Strickland. Gentlemen serving as active pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Canton Road Church of God, Steve Jones, Terry Mitchell, and Freddie White; past deacons, Tommy Morris and Tim Buckner; junior ushers; and the following gentlemen: Kenneth Young, Frank Miller Jr., Donnie Miller, Calvin Gentry, Paul Patterson, Jerry Strickland, Rev. Don Hazel, Scott Pierce, and the Breakfast Buddies at Morrell�s Corner Caf�. Gentlemen serving as honorary pallbearers are requested to meet at the church at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The family will receive friends from 2 � 4 p.m. and from 6 � 8 p.m. Saturday, August, 16, 2008 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Bartow County Relay for Life. A box to make your contributions will be set up during the visitation.
