Mrs. Birdie Margaret Ray age 98, of Rome, GA, died Monday, December 6, 2010, at her daughter�s residence.



Mrs. Ray was born in Floyd County, GA, on November 6, 1912, the daughter of the late Taylor Long and Nora Henderson Long. She loved to garden, quilt, cook, and spending time with her friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ray was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey �Doc� Ray; a brother, Jason Long; and a sister, Beedie Tolbert.



Survivors include two sons, John D. Long of Milledgeville, GA and Jud Cooper of Rome, GA; a daughter, Alice Samples of Dawsonville, GA; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.



A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, December 9, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Gary Graves and Dr. Frank Wood officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.



The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel by 1:30 P.M. on Thursday: Ray Samples, Nathan Purdy, Michael Kollar, Jack Fuller, Parker Fuller, and David Cooper.
