Bobby Gollahon

Mr. Bobby Doyal Gollahon, age 70, of 11 Lakemont Drive, Silver Creek, GA, died Monday, May 24, 2004, in a local nursing home.Mr. Gollahon was born in Floyd County on February 2, 1934, son of the late James George Edward Gollahon and Ruthie Ethel Marshall Gollahon. He was a veteran the United States Army. He moved to Atlanta where he resided for five years until meeting and marrying his wife on February 12, 1957. Mr. Gollahon returned Rome in 1964 where he resided with his bride. Not only did Mr. Gollahon coach his boys' little league team, he was a foster parent for many years as well. He was a C.B. Radio enthusiast, his handle was "Slim", and also enjoyed playing billards. Mr. Gollahon was associated with Boise Cascade for many years and retired from Pet Bakeries in 1976. He was a past President of Georgia Federation of the Blind and was a past Vice President of the UAW of Georgia. Mr. Gollahon was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen Swaney Gollahon, on November 11, 2003.Mr. Gollahon is survived by three sons and daughter-in-law, Mickey Doyal Gollahon of Claxton, GA, Allen Blake Gollahon of Silver Creek, GA, James Eric and Donna Gollahon, also of Silver Creek; two brothers, James John "Buck" Gollahon of Rome and Charles Gollahon of Cartersville, GA. Nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services will be held this (Wednesday) evening at 7 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home. Mr. Gollahon will lie in-state at the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends this (Wednesday) evening from 5 until 7 p.m. At other hours the family will receive at the residence.
