Mrs. Burta Young Christian, age 90, of Rome, GA died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Christian was born in Covington, GA on August 12, 1918, the daughter of the late Clinton J. Young and Waud Parks Young. She was a member of Floyd Springs Baptist Church for over forty years and was a member of the Jolly Sixties Church Group. Mrs. Christian was a nurse at Gordon County Hospital for over twenty years. She enjoyed sewing, reading, word puzzles, gardening, shopping, and caring for her bird, Pretty Boy. Also, she was a loving mother and grandmother. In addition to her parents Mrs. Christian was preceded in death by her husband, John P. �Bud� Christian on September 13, 2003; a granddaughter, JoAnna Cordle Lloyd on March 4, 2002; a brother, Bill Young; and a sister, Hilda Clark. Also, her dogs Butch and Mr. T who passed in recent years.
Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Johnnie and Hubert Cordle of Rome and Becky Christian Fuller of Canton, GA; four grandchildren and their spouses, Cristy Cordle Perry (David) of Rome, Kelli Fuller Sellers and Joe of Acworth, GA, Gail Fuller Dasher (Rusty) of Acworth, and Price Cordle (Rogena) of Armuchee; a great-granddaughter, Joanna Cordle of Armuchee; great-grandchildren, Summer Lloyd, Rachel Lloyd Cordle,Brach Dasher, Rebecca Dasher,Will Perry, Joel Perry and a sister, Lesline Patty of Ringgold, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside and interment services will be held Saturday, January 24, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. George Adams officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the cemetery on Saturday by 1:40 P.M.: Brach Dasher, Joel Perry, Will Perry, Paul Sellers, Dusty Cordle, and Mark Kuenz.
