Mrs. Callie Mae West Cowart, age 78, of 5240 Old Calhoun Road, Adairsville, GA, died Monday evening, December 20, 2004, at her residence.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mrs. Cowart was born on January 8, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph Luther West and Lucy Pass West. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church and participated in the "Ready" Sunday School Class. Mrs. Cowart was also a member of the Shannon Highlight Club and Woodmen of the World, where she served as a trustee for three years. Prior to retirement in 1990, she was associated in the Planning Department of Galey and Lord Carpet Industry. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, doll collecting, and flowers. Mrs. Cowart was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Willis M. Cowart, to whom she was married on March 24, 1957; and a son, Leonard Cowart.Mrs. Cowart is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph M. and Sandra Cowart of Las Vegas, NV, Richard and Brenda Cowart of Adairsville, GA, Marlene Cowart of Calhoun, GA, and one sister, Margaret R. West of Adairsville. Eleven grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mrs. Cowart will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Ken Hinkley officiating. Interment will follow in the Rush Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Cowart will be carried to the church to lie in-state on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.Mrs. Cowart will remain at the Heritage Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends (Wednesday) evening from 6 until 8 p.m. At other hours they will be at their respective homes.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. and include Richard White, Brian Cowart, Bruce West, Michael Lashley, Bobby West, James West and Richard Tidwell.
