Mrs. Carolyn Lou Brown Millican, 91 of 34 Meadows Dr, SE, Rome, passed away at her residence on February 7, 2008.
Carolyn was born on September 19, 1916 in Mitchell Co., GA, moving to Rome with her parents over 70 years ago. She was the daughter of John Duncan Brown, Sr. & Mary Lee "Mamie" Belcher Brown who preceded her in death.
Carolyn was a life-long Methodist, having attended North Rome Methodist Church until becoming a founding member of the Wesley Southern Methodist Church with her husband and other family members. She was a member of the Ladies WMS and had held numerous offices throughout her years of membership at Wesley.
Mrs. Millican was well-known throughout the county by the "well-dressed" crowd. She worked for over 40 years at "The Vogue" on Broad Street. Many ladies in Rome and the surrounding areas were saddened when she retired at age 70. She was always there with a beautiful smile and ready to help you pick out the "perfect" outfit.
Carolyn was an avid reader and loved to read Danielle Steele, Belva Plain, and John Grisham's "non-lawyer" books. She said the lawyer books were too scary. She loved her family and always looked forward to having them visit. Carolyn was a wonderful cook who passed this talent on to her daughters and graciously shared her knowledge with her daughter-in-law.
On April 26, 1938 in Rome, GA, she married Maurice Alton "Pete" Millican who preceded her in death on April 16, 2007. They were 10 days away from celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary when he passed.
One of 8 children, she was the last to leave us. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Kenneth Lee (Murvin Bland) Brown, Dougle Franklin (Mamie Belle) Brown, Alonzo Harold (Bessie Cook) Brown and John Duncan (Margaret Kidd) Brown, Jr., 3 sisters, Lillian Elizabeth (Clarence Green) Brown, Ruth (Webb Bramlett) Brown and Violet Brown who died as an infant.
She is survived by her three children, son, Ronald Maurice Millican and his wife Pat of Rome, daughters, Judith Lynn "Judy" Gumm and her husband Kenneth of Vienna, WV and Cynthia "Kay" Thomas and her husband Wendell of Richmond, VA. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
