Mr. Cecil Lee Atkins, age 72, of Rome, GA died December 6, 2009, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Atkins was born in Cherokee County, AL on March 11, 1937, the son of the late Cecil Harvey Atkins and Gertha Ross Atkins. He retired as a forklift operator from S.I. Storey Lumber Company and was a member of Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents Mr. Atkins was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Self and Yvonne Roberson.
Survivors include three brothers, Charles Atkins of Rome, GA Reford Atkins of Summerville, GA, and Jerry Atkins of Adairsville, GA; and a sister, Helen Hunter of Rome, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at 1:00 P.M. in the Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Skip Mitchell and Ray Teems officiating. Mr. Atkins will lie-in-state at the church from noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Fisher Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 12:30 P.M.: Bobby Self, Dean Self, Gene Self, Nekoda Self, Matthew Self, and Jerremy Atkins.
