Mr. Charles Henry Beard, age 80, of 13 Kennemore Road, Rome, GA, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, in a local hospital.
Mr. Beard was born in Floyd County, GA, on June 18, 1927, the son of the late Mack Henry Beard and Ruth Holcombe Beard. He retired from Ozment Brother's Texaco as a mechanic and worked for many years with Rome Automobile. Mr. Beard was a member of Wilkerson Road Baptist Church where he served as a deacon since1962. He served in the United States Army and in the United States Air Force. In addition to his parents, Mr. Beard is preceded in death by, a son, Rodney Eugene Beard; a daughter, Donna June Bailey; and two brothers, Rev. Harold Beard and Robert Beard.
Mr. Beard is survived by his wife, Faye Rowland Beard of Rome, to whom he was married on December 22, 1951; three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Darlene Beard, Alan and Kim Beard, and Brian and Mary Beard all of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Charles Worley of Rome; twelve grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 21, 2008, at noon in the Wilkerson Road Baptist Church with Rev. Milford Williams and Mr. Johnny Peoples officiating. Mr. Beard will be carried to the church on Friday to lie-in-state from 11:00 A.M. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Beard will remain in the Oaknoll Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet at Wilkerson Road Baptist Church on Friday by 11:30 A.M.: Larry Broome, Johnny Peoples, Gary Garmany, James Heard, Tommy McGill, and Jerry Gossett. The honorary pallbearers will be Clark Sloman and Lee Rogers.
